this next one is one i made for a fella called Parrot who ran the trivia room i used to play in. He came over from Belguim and i had to get the cake in one piece up to Birmingham. The bar's are made of spagehetti. It was his birthday and he has no family and almost cried when he saw the cake cos he has never had one!

This one is Tyler's my grandson's christening cake.

I have loads more on disc, they were on puter but we lost everything a while back when it was wiped and i ahvent put everything back yet.

Do you make them for a living or pleasure?

Pleasure, they take so long to do and i don't charge a lot for them. I can alway's see the flaws lol.

Aaaah but they're so lovely, I can't see any flaws at all! They're perfect! Is it true that you can't make these cakes from chocolate because it's not strong enough to hold the upper levels? I know how much time they take - an old friend of mine was in business. She talked like you too - saying she could see flaws where no one else in the universe could! Big yourself up, dude :> They're gorgeous.

I know what you mean about seeing the flaws yourself, I am exactly the same when I make cakes, I'm told that I am too self critical. They do take a lot of time and can be a headache sometimes so I don't do them very often now

One word: WOW.

I thought of tonnes of other words too but I thought 'wow' would sum it up!

Aww thanx for your compliments. I really do see flaws!! and always worried they too dry, not cooked etc...
As for choc cakes, do u mean decorated in choc? Cos i thought it would have been the same as a normal iced cake, you would use dowling to keep the boards of the top of the cake so it does'nt collapse. The same with pillars, you use dowling. Dowling is plastic or wooden rod's that go through the cake, you cut it the size you require and it helps balance the cake above without actually sitting on the cake beneath.
I feel exactly the same as you Jan. I'm ok when i get going thou. I got so many different types of cake tins and bit's and pieces. I keep thinking i'll get rid of some, then i change my mind, just incase lol.

dowling haha! yeh me next door neighbour made his daughters wedding cake. they came to cut the cake and the knife wudnt go through cause it had great bits of wood stuck in it haha it was so funny seeing them try and cut it they were at it for ages be for her dad told the what he had done

How much dowling did he put in it???2 x2 LOL

hes a professional baker he used to do it for a living but it was a massive MASSIVE cake ill c if i can find a pick of it, it was over the top massiveeeee!!!!

Su, these look abosolutly gorgous!! Do you draw a design before starting a cake or sort of coordinate the style and colors while assembling it? It's smart to take pictures of these as they look so pretty you almost don't want to eat them. (I said almost....)

I also love baking cakes and cookies but never have the patience to decorate them fancy--I just smear on some chocolate icing and sprinkles and serve on a plate! Would love to take a course in cake decorating someday, though.
