She's been to see other musicals but I understand that Wicked is quite saucy (because the book is ultra saucy), so obviously I don't want her to see anything inappropriate :>

She'll be fine D. The musical is very loosely based on the book!

Not saucy at all, and the politics are very toned down.

Ha ha! Well, it looks blue in the pictures...I know it's green 'cuz I've seen it live.

Here we are in the final round of "Teens With Talent" where Veronica and Jessie are singing their hearts out to win a date with West End heart throb, Keith Jack.

Wink

I took a friend to see "Wicked" last year on Broadway for a Sunday matinee. We both loved it; we've heard the music on CDs before but the dancing and acting really brought the story to life.

I can see why this show appeals to so many young people today whereas my mother, a traditional MT viewer, considers only the classics like Rogers and Hammersteins to be real entertainment. But the relationships between Elphaba and Galina are applicable today and lots of girls can relate to the conflicts (I have had my share of squabbling roomates). I read the book and found it insightful but too cynical for my taste so the musical did a nice job of taking the book's framework and giving it a redeemable factor. Stephen Schwartz worked on "The Prince of Egypt" another favorite of mine with great music, so I trusted him to turn the show into something unique that hadn't been done before.

I've always felt a show can have great music, lyrics, costumes, and choreography but it's got to hold together. There must be some message or underlying theme running through the show or else it won't satisfy me. It was that way with "Aida" where they tried to "rock up" an old love story but it didn't enthrall me. I liked "Wicked" because the messages about propaganda and superficial judgement weren't beaten into our heads but woven into the story so the audience could follow along with Elphaba's journey.

Obviously not everyone will enjoy the same show but "Wicked" has brought many new young aspiring people into theatre and that's plenty good enough for me. Very Happy
